Drama set in 1980s post-revolutionary Iran. Told in flashback through the voice of the main character's Aunt Zahra (Shohreh Aghdashloo) as she relates the story to a Western journalist (James Caviezel), the film tells the story of Soraya (Mozhan Marno), whose arranged marriage to an abusive man ended in tragedy. Soraya's husband Ali (Navid Negahban) has tired of her after having four children with her, and now wants to marry a teenage girl. Unable to afford to keep two wives, he demands a divorce from Soraya, who refuses for economic reasons. Ali then conspires to frame Soraya for infidelity. Despite the total lack of motive or evidence, his accusations spark a vicious mob mentality and justice is cast aside as Soraya is subjected to the ultimate punishment for a crime she did not commit.
