Documentary charting the history of the drug known as LSD and its subsequent influence on the world at large. First synthesised by chemist Albert Hofmann in a Swiss pharmaceutical laboratory in 1943, lysergic acid diethylamide gained worldwide exposure in the 1960s when it was famously adopted by the counterculture movement as a drug of choice. Using archive footage and interviews the film traces LSD's rise to prominence, as well as shedding some light on less well known episodes when its mind-altering properties were investigated by the American military for use as a potential weapon during the Cold War.
