Description

Acclaimed documentary from producer Martin Smith, looking at the terrible mining disaster at Gresford Colliery in 1934, in which 260 miners were killed. Looking at the way the community and the media dealt with the tragedy, the documentary reveals the extent to which public opinion towards the miners was conflicted and contradictory, on the one hand exhorting them as a patriotic underground army serving the nation, and on the other hand tolerating appalling working conditions and poor wages. Features location footage and interviews with survivors.
