The second series of the British TV drama scripted by Peter Moffat that follows life in an English village throughout the 20th century. At the heart of the tale is Bert Middleton (David Ryall), an elderly man whose life spans the entire course of the century and whose memories provide the access point to the area's past. This series tracks life in the village during the roaring twenties, in the devastating aftermath of the First World War and prior to the Great Depression. Social upheaval sees a changing of attitudes and governments across the decade, John (John Simm) struggles with his dairy business and George (Augustus Prew)'s shellshock causes friction in his marriage to Martha Allingham (Charlie Murphy), pushing her closer to Gerard Eyre (Matt Stokoe).
