The fourth film by Chinese director Jia Zhangke is a study of the insular world of a troupe of Chinese stage-performers who dream of freedom. Set in the World Park on the outskirts of Beijing, a sprawling and tacky theme park based around replicas of global landmarks from five continents including the Great Pyramid and the Eiffel Tower, the film details the lives of the disillusioned, lonely young people who work there including pretty young dancer Tao (Tao Zhao) and security guard Taisheng (Taisheng Chen).
