Classic literature is full of them, royals swap jokes about them, a French entertainer made his living from them, and the captain of England's rugby team was dismissed for using the word to describe the team selection committee as a bunch of old...It's the fart of course, a word for which the English language has produced many alternatives, ie; to break wind, parp, let off, blow off, drop one, boof, trump, let one rip, or emit a trouser cough. The Art of the Fart is a collection of anecdotes about a subject that is taboo in polite society, but has a wide appreciation none the less. How else could you account for the popularity of the whoopee cushion? Interspersed with the stories on rear end eructions are a series of classic black and white film stills for which the singular caption would be, "So, who farted?" The art of the fart draws from among others, Chaucer, Shakespeare, The Simpsons, Monty Python, Mark Twain, and the diaries of Samuel "I care not a fart for it" Pepys.
