Bargello, also known as Florentine work, dates from the 17th century, and is canvaswork craft worked in wools or silks. It is characterized by parallel lines of straight stitches in wave", "flame" or similar formations. Part of the beauty of Bargello lies in the simplicity of the stitch. The repeat patterns build into designs which often have a three-dimensional effect.
