Such was our Easter, 1945. Is it possible to evaluate such things? I make no effort to do so. But I am sure of some things without knowing their true meaning to others. I am sure that I was made better. I am sure that I, as a chaplain, was fulfilling one of the purposes for which I volunteered for the Army. And I am sure that a need, deep seated in men's hearts, was satisfied. We were a group of Americans in a foreign land where some of our comrades sleep. We were tired from months of combat. But the spirit of God was With us.
