An agreement 300 years ago, between an angel and Marek's founding fathers, protects magic and politic stability within the city. A recent plague wiped out most of the city's sorcerers. Reb, one of the survivors, realises that someone has deposed the city-angel without replacing it. Marcia, Heir to House Fereno, stumbles across that same truth.
