So, who was this mysterious person - our long-lost brother?
We had no idea he even existed, at least not before inadvertently stumbling upon an intriguing family secret that had been hidden away for over eighty years.
Determined to unravel the puzzle, my sisters and I embarked on a quest that proved to be far more challenging than we could ever have anticipated.
However, against all the odds and despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles, we eventually succeeded in finding our long-lost brother, Charles Kemsley or Chuck, as he preferred to be called.
We soon discovered that Chuck had been a remarkable man with a thirst for adventure and excitement; travelling the world, fearless, tough and invincible.
Deeply traumatised by the belief that he had been abandoned at birth, he lived life on the edge, seeking danger and defying death.
Despite this turbulent, anger fuelled lifestyle, Chuck always kept a strong sense of justice and had a deep respect for all living creatures.
He developed an amazing rapport with animals and, in later life, became one of the world's leading authorities in canine and equine behaviour.
This is a book in three parts: an account of our seemingly impossible search with so many dead ends; the tragic story of a desperate young mother faced with a heartbreaking decision and, finally, Chuck's own autobiography.
It's a tale of love, loss and reconciliation but, above all else, it is the extraordinary life story of a very special man - a man we are proud to call our brother!
