7 Days to Die is a zombie game. Yes, we know, we know. There are approximately 1,281 zombie games out there. But 7 Days to Die is zombies done right. You're not an action hero. You're not attempting to forever halt the rising tide of the undead. You're an average Joe/Joelle simply trying to scrabble together enough resources and a half decent strategy to make it through the day against a backdrop of constant horror. 7 Days to Die is an open-world combo of survival horror, tower defence, RPG elements and first-person shooter action. And what a grim, brutal open-world it is. To survive the day (or even seven of them) you'll need to mine, loot, craft, explore fight and even grow a little bit as a person. The environment is huge, with a bunch of different biomes and resources for you to gather. Survival depends on gathering what you need, crafting it into useful gear and setting traps. These are the slow kind of zombies, but your life is yours to lose and the slightest slip-up will see your brains getting eaten for brunch. You can, if you like, try to survive the apocalypse with a friend. There's local split screen, or four-player online modes that include PVP, survival co-op and creative co-op. As well as the core game, this PS5 edition also includes an exclusive samurai skin. Good luck out there. You'll need it.
