A tie-in to a new 6-part Granada series to be screened next February. The series will be screened as 1 hour episodes on Sundays at 8pm.
Set in Manchester's Grand Hotel between the World Wars, THE GRAND is pitched as UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS meets THE HOUSE OF ELLIOTT - a classic, escapist, nostaglic series. Opening on New Year's Eve, 1918, the series follows the fortunes of the Bannerman family who are celebrating the relaunch of the fabulous hotel, which has been closed throughout the war. They have done all that they can to plan this lavish party, and to get the hotel refurbished and prepared - nothing can go wrong.
But on the night of the party, one of their guests (and the man who's arranged all of the hotel's finances) is found shot dead. An apparent suicide, all evidence begins to point towards imminent destitution for the Bannermans . . .
THE GRAND promises to become a classic household favourite - lavish and glamorous, and with the emphasis every bit as much on life amongst the hotel staff 'downstairs' as it is on the family 'upstairs'.
