The Haflinger - Helen Deverill

The Haflinger, with its striking appearance, unmistakable colour and gentle nature, is rarely forgotten once seen. This book, which is the first to be written about the breed from the British point of view, records the Haflinger's development from its early origins in the Tyrolean Alps to the present day. Originally developed as an all-purpose farm horse sure-footed and hardy enough to survive in its mountain home, its re-appearance as an all round riding and driving horse is charted. Its versatility and ability to succeed in many diverse equestrian activities are well-documented here. Explanations of selective breeding, breeding standards and policy for the future are also given. The Silver Jubilee year of the Haflinger Society of Great Britain is celebrated in 1996, and the book illustrates the progress over those twenty-five years, from the time when just a few Haflingers first arrived in Britain in the 1960s up until today, when approximately 500 animals are registered.
