The Legend of Heroes is, in some ways, gaming's own Game of Thrones. No, really! This JRPG series has been going for two decades now, with over a dozen games in the series building out four different story arcs which all, in some way, contribute to one of the tightest universes in all of gaming. Or maybe it's our MCU. Either way, Trails through Daybreak presents a unique opportunity: a jumping-on point. Set in the Republic of Calvard, an economic superpower with technology that rivals the (real) modern world, Trails through Daybreak introduces private investigator Van Arkride. He gets caught up in the story of schoolgirl Agnes Claudel, who's looking to recover an artifact of her grandfather's. Van's right to be reluctant to get involved - it turns out there are eight of them altogether, and if he doesn't recover them all something big and bad is going to happen to the world. It's a new story, with new characters, and it doesn't lean too heavily on past events from the series. If you're looking for a way in to this legendary series, this is your moment! Trails through Daybreak features a morality system that doesn't run quite as deep as that of Shin Megami Tensei, but it does give you a feeling of inhabiting some grey areas and has an impact on who you can align yourself with.
