The broad-ranging effects of dementia and the grief and stress it causes in carers and family members are widely acknowledged. Much has been written for the professionals who treat and care for people with dementia, for adult carers at home, and for newly-diagnosed patients themselves.;For young people, dementia is very hard to understand; it can cause feelings of confusion, anger, embarrassment, guilt and fear. Caring for a person with dementia at home can be very disruptive of normal family life, and often it is the younger family members who are left without support.;This work explains the different forms of dementia and what happens to people with dementia and their families. It describes how young people may be affected and how they may feel, and offers practical suggestions to help overcome some of the difficulties.
