Some forms of idiocy are circumstantial perhaps, but considerable nevertheless. Take the physicist Stephen Hawking, accompanied by more than 1,000 scientists, signing an open letter, warning of the dangers of a -military AI arms race, - and calling for an outright ban on -offensive autonomous weapons-. The demographic capacity of planet Earth has reached its very limit. It is a mathematical certainty, enhanced by the scope of technology that more people are going to die. The world's population increases by well over 1 million net every single week, and the blood-letting will be unrelenting. But it will most certainly not be an effect of the -military AI arms race.- This is the age of global terrorism, with thousands rushing to their death like lemmings. More ominously, every proportional increase in the global population translates into a subsequent 2 or 3-point increase in the world's armed confrontations. Nor am I the first to have noticed that academia's intellectual gratification is an absurd, clownish pursuit of Twitter, where the progressive thinker has become a bigoted lecturer for 12-year-olds. From boffin to twit in a blink. The Fawcett Society, meanwhile, treats the female as a failed being, by adopting the need to fill gender quotas as a matter of affirmative action. Which is no less perverse than the reconstruction of Islam in Europe. As the Battle for the soul of the West is about to begin, I wake from a dream to find a generation divided between gender dysphorics and political correctness. My own guess is that humankind has just lost it. Nietzsche, in his brilliant sketch of Zarathustra, summarises the essential dilemma that divine laws can be made fruitful only by the application of human intelligence. -Man is something to be surpassed, - he states. -What have you done to surpass man...?- So here's looking at you, Academia: at the good, the bad, and the ugly.
