All artists, whatever their standard, need to be able to draw and sketch, and no-one draws perfect pictures immediately. This book shows how to improve your drawing skills by developing good observation skills, choosing the best medium for your style, and by working through some of the numerous step-by-step projects and demonstrations in the book.

The book is divided into three sections. The first gives information on a wide range of media and equipment - graphite pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, carre pastels, coloured pencils and encourages the reader to experiment with each of them for different types of drawings.

The main core of the book contains 12 step-by-step projects and demonstrations in the different media.Then in the last section of the book the reader is encouraged to develop a personal style of drawing by analysing how three artists, each working on the same subject, approach and interpret it in a different way.
