The Red Baron combat wing - Peter Kilduff

Manfred von Richtofen shot down 80 British and French aircraft before he himself was shot down and killed in April 1918. He was just 26 years-old. By this time he was not just a fighter ace, but a legend. His unit, Jagdgeschwader 1 (equivalent to an RAF fighter wing) was named Jagdgeschwader Richtofen, in his honour and survives today as Germany's first and most famous aircraft formation. This is the story of how the 'Red Baron' formed and led his outfit during the First World War. The Jagdeschwader continued to fight on after his death and was commanded at the end of the war by an Oberleutnant named Hermann Gring.
