The spirits of Lily Dale - Christine Wicker

Lily Dale is a 122-year old town populated solely by people who believe the dead live among them. It is the oldest and largest community of spiritualists in the world. 20,000 visitors a year travel to this Victorian village in upstate New York to consult mediums in order to communicate with dead relatives and peer into their own futures. Christine Wicker arrives in the baffling, wacky but caring community to try and discover the truth about spiritualism and mediums. She takes us into the mediums' lives and retells the stories of those whose relatives have saved them, from beyond the grave. With her we raise tables, meet people who carry passports to other planets and speak to stallions, and we try to contact Chapman Clark, the town's lothario who has visited as many women since his death as he did in life. However, what becomes clear to Christine is that the truth is a many faceted thing, and that her scepticism about life after death may be holding her back from her own spiritual discovery. Christine must learn to listen. And only then will she be able to solve the mystery at the heart of Lily Dale.
