This book, by acclaimed music journalist Harvey Kubernik and his brother Kenneth Kubernik, music journalist, editor and jazz keyboardist, celebrates Canadian-American roots rock band the Band, one of the most revered groups in rock history. Their first album, Music From Big Pink, debuted 50 years ago; Martin Scorcese's film The Last Waltz, on their legendary final star-filled concert, came out 40 years ago. The Story of the Band covers everything from their collaborations with Bob Dylan - they were his early backing band on tour and during the famed Basement Tapes recordings at Big Pink, in West Saugerties, New York, where members of the Band once lived - through their last concert, "The Last Waltz" (Thanksgiving 1976), filmed by Martin Scorsese and hailed as the greatest concert movie ever made. The book will feature little-known and previously unpublished interviews with members of the Band and the scene-makers and musicians of the time and the people who knew them, and memorabilia and photographs from some of the most acclaimed rock photographers of the era.
