Changes to this edition include the addition of a timeline and an attempt to take account of the most important historical writing and research on the Stuart age that has been done since the 1970s or so. The author aims to provide in the text, notes and bibliographical note and the timeline, information and guides that will enable readers to form their own judgements about the conflicting interpretations of Stuart history.;Among the major themes reassessed are: the causes of the Civil War; the nature of the English Revolution; the aims and achievements of Cromwell; the continuation of religious passion in the politics of Restoration England; and the impact on Britain of the Glorious Revolution.;A particular theme of this second edition is the research area of the interconnections and contrasts between the different constituent parts of Britain in the period.
