Tomb Raider originally made its release on Sega Saturn with very little impact.
A little later on, the same game made its debut on PlayStation, but with massive hype.

Probably Sony's greatest phenomenon is the ability to market a product.
It was clear that Core's achievement was a great one, and Sony, alongside Eidos was able to magnify this to the general public.
One year later, the sequel makes its way onto PlayStation, and with just as much, if not more hype. To warrant a sequel, there has to be noticeable differences in both visuals and game play.
Tomb Raider 2's textures have been given a larger library, making it more appealing to the naked eye.
Also, the game's structure has been altered in favour of combat as opposed to adventure and exploration.
While this may be favourable for new players to the series, players looking for more of the same will be a little disappointed.
New abilities and the use of vehicles have been added to Lara's repertoire.
Now you can drive around on a snowmobile in arctic weathers, or ride in a speedboat through the city of Venice. Overall, Tomb Raider 2 may have been a little over hyped, but is a decent title nonetheless.
