Description

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is a fast, fantastical roguelike that encourages experimentation and cooperation. In a far-off mystical land, dark ancient forces are stirring. Shinju Village is up to its neck in foreboding and lurking threats, and it's up to you, Towa, to muster the forces of good against them. Fortunately, the Guardians of the Sacred Tree are on hand to help out. Venture out to explore far off lands under threat from the villainous Magatsu, carving your way through enemies as you go. The USP here is the way that you can mix and match weapons, skills and guardian pairings. On each run you select one guardian to control a Tsurugi (sword) and another to wield the Kagura staff. You control the sword wielder while the AI (or a friend, in co-op mode) provides support with defensive and offensive spells. Experimentation, therefore, is the name of the game, with different pairings of guardians offering different complimentary abilities. After a frenetic run and brutal boss fight, you can retire back to Shinju Village to relax. The village evolves over the in-game years, and you can develop relationships with the villagers that change with the village, learning more about its customs and stories as the years progress. Spending time in the village gives you the chance to train in the dojo, craft new swords at the smithy and summon powerful Graces.
