Description

NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... is somewhere between a remaster and a remake of the first NieR game. If you remember that game's western release, you'll recall the obscenely muscled bloke on the cover who looked like he fell out of Gears of War, through Conan the Barbarian and into a post-apocalyptic JRPG. He's gone for this outing, replaced by the younger Nier of the Japanese version of the original who's out to save his sister (rather than his daughter) from a disease known as the Black Scrawl. It helps that Nier is a bit of a hard nut to crack, armed with a sword that slices through demons like butter. He's assisted in his search for a Black Scrawl cure by a cursed book called Grimoire Weiss. With his destiny tied to the book, Nier can upgrade his fighting skill and learn new abilities. Everything has been brushed up for this release, with overhauls on the graphics, score and dub. Most importantly, the combat has been brought more in line with the more chain/combo-focused action of NieR Automata, the game that really launched the franchise into prime time. The story is one that involves multiple twists and turns, and it will be a plot that you will want to see through to the end, if only to make sense of it all. Formidable allies will join your cause, which is just as well because the monsters you face become ever greater. When teamwork and swordplay isn't enough, you can cast various spells that can help change the game in your favour. Best described as an action-packed role playing game - all the hack and slash elements you would expect in a modern day brawler coupled with the same kind of experiences that is traditional of Square Enix titles - NieR Replicant will be one dark story that you will want to unravel.
