The photographs and drawings from this series come from a unique collection brought together by Maarten Hesselt van Dinter, well known for his previous work The World of Tattoo.
Once these designs were used by warriors of ancient cultures as a mark of honour or to put fear into their enemies. But also young girls and boys were tattooed whenever they entered a new stage in their life.
Each book includes a brief anthropological introduction and an extensive index in several languages including English, French and Spanish.
