Triple bill of action adventures with themes of Greek history and legend. 'Troy' (2004), set in 1193 BC, is based on Homer's sprawling epic poem 'Iliad'. It tells the story of Paris, Prince of Troy (Orlando Bloom), who falls in love with the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta (Brendan Gleeson), the beautiful Helen (Diane Kruger). He persuades her to leave her husband and go back with him to Troy, sparking a war between the Mycenaeans, led by Menelaus's brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox), and the armies of Troy, led by Prince Hector (Eric Bana). The City of Troy, governed by King Priam (Peter O'Toole), has never before succumbed to seige or battle but Agamemnon and the Mycenae Greeks have a formidable ally: the great and seemingly indomitable Achilles (Brad Pitt). Political intrigue, passionate love trysts and one-on-one fight sequences take place against a background of sweeping battle scenes as the armies of ancient Greece and the city of Troy engage in their epic and bloody war. 'Alexander: Director's Cut' (2004) is based on the true story of one of history's most luminous and influential leaders, Alexander the Great, who is here played by Colin Farrell. Alexander was a man who had conquered 90% of the known world by the age of 27. He led his virtually invincible Greek and Macedonian armies through 22,000 miles of sieges and conquests in just eight years and, by the time of his death at the age of 32, had forged an empire unlike any the world had ever seen. The film chronicles Alexander's path to becoming a living legend, from a youth fueled by dreams of myth, glory and adventure to his lonely death as a ruler of a vast Empire. 'Clash of the Titans' (2010) is based loosely on the Greek myth of Perseus, who is here portrayed by Sam Worthington. Perseus is the son of the King of the Gods, Zeus (Liam Neeson), but is raised as a man. When Hades (Ralph Fiennes), the God of the underworld, threatens to seize power from Zeus, Perseus embarks on a life-threatening mission to defeat him. Joined by a group of brave warriors, Perseus is forced to battle beasts and demons in order to save his family and will only succeed if he finally accepts and uses his power as a God.
