LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a bit like thrusting your hand into a massive box of the titular bricks and seeing what you come out with. Except, instead of random Star Wars pieces and pirate ship bits and weird LEGO Technic goobers, you're coming away with disassembled parts of every Batman movie ever made, and a fair few bits and pieces of the comics, other media and wider pop culture, as well. It's a gleefully weird assembly, referencing everything from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns to Back to the Future to American Psycho. The biggest reference of all, however, is Rocksteady's series of Arkham games. This is TT Games' version of that classic series. You'll swoop and glide around an open world LEGO version of Gotham, dropping into buttery smooth freeflow combat situations. TT has really nailed that feeling of moving, countering, charging up ultimates, concussing one enemy after another, after another. Meanwhile, the entire campaign is a patchwork of scenes from the aforementioned Batman films. Fans will notice everything from the Himalayan scenes of Batman Begins to the army of deadly penguins from Batman Returns. The game is designed around couch co-op, and sidekicks are a huge part of the whole operation. Different sidekicks have different special abilities that help with different parts of the game. Catwoman has a knack for climbing walls and cutting through glass, Commissioner Gordon has a nifty gun that can clog up machinery, Robin can tie objects together and force open doors, etc etc. The game effortlessly, humorously flows from combat to puzzle to combat, even chucking in a light version of Rocksteady's Detective Mode. Whatever kind of Batman fan you are, there's something to love here.
