Amongst the place names that have become legendary as the sites of horrific battles, the Battle of Verdun during the First World War stands as one of history's greatest clashes. From February to December 1916, the German and Allied Forces battled for control of this small French city, with causalities of over 800,000 men and a devastating effect of both sides. It was one of the most complex battles of WW1, and John Mosier claims, the most misunderstood.
