Vertigo swimming - Richard George

Lake Baikal, in Siberia, is the deepest body of fresh water on earth. In the old days, before industrial pollution, swimmers had the haunting experience of seeing the lake bed a thousand feet below them. This pellucidity is what Richard George aspires to in his poetry. Landscape plays a major role: Russia, his own ancestral Wales, north Hertfordshire, Oxford and the classical world he studied there. The reader will encounter family members, old flames, literary figures and irrepressible animals. Richard believes poetry can be written for anyone, on any subject.
