Every now and then a game comes out and you can't believe it didn't already exist. Welcome to the racing genre, LEGO 2K Drive! It's amazing you weren't invited to the party sooner, but Lego looks set to expand beyond its usual licensed fare so there will no doubt be plenty more to come. This is not, of course, a hardcore racing sim - this is kart racing at its most joyous. It's fast, furious and has cool touches like vehicles that will transform from one vehicle into another as they change terrain. Likewise, we get a Lego spin on classic power-ups, like a ghost mode that helps you dodge missiles and a Lego spider that will obscure opponents' screens. While developer Visual Concepts could have stuck with a classic track-by-track kart racing model, the developer has gone further and built a whole open world for you to cruise around, looking for races and other activities. The whole thing can be played in co-op for up to six racers, with each player able to explore at their leisure until someone triggers a race and you're zapped to the starting line. There are, of course, a TON of customisation options, with players able to deconstruct the sets they earn, brick-by-brick, to build whatever vehicle they can dream up, and you can even customise the different modes of your vehicle! LEGO 2K Drive looks set to become a major new contender on the racing scene, and this is the ground floor.
