Some words and phrases that you can use to describe Hellmut: The Badass from Hell - twin-stick shooter; roguelike; bullet-hell; procedural death labyrinth. It's a game that you can put into a few different boxes, but if you make a game fit enough boxes then sooner or later you need to get it a weirdly-shaped box all of its own (and maybe a new metaphor). You play as a mad scientist who called upon the forces of darkness for power and instead got well and truly messed with. There's a lesson here, and it's that the forces of darkness are, by their very nature, more likely to splat than help. In any case, you're brought back as a floating brain that's able to shoot little beams and, more importantly, take on 'Transformations' which allow you to wear a body and run around shooting things in all sorts of interesting ways and use all sorts of interesting powers. As the Rat King you can command rats, as the Orc Fairy you can cast powerful(ish) spells, as the Slimeball you can chuck horrible goo around... the list goes on. You can use the Transformation Wheel to change on the fly, but each one is a new life, so choose carefully. So does the list of worlds, given that they're procedurally-generated. That goes for the boss fights, too. And the weapons have plenty of variety as well, ranging from bog-standard shotguns to rubber rat launchers (rats feature a lot in Hellmutt). The upshot is that Hellmut: The Badass from Hell offers a ton of variety, a surprising amount of strategy and a LOT of chaos.
