Walks around the Sandstone Ridge & West Chesire - Steve Goodier

A lot of regular walkers dismiss Cheshire as being too flat to provide satisfying walking, but in ignoring it they are missing out on a region that can provide excellent outdoor days which can be tailored to suit those who like long walks as well as those who prefer shorter ones. It is hoped that this book will encourage you to lace up your boots and give this pleasant area a go. It is principally concerned with the great Sandstone Ridge which runs down the west side of Cheshire from the coastal regions around Frodsham before terminating towards the Shropshire border some thirty miles distant. Along and around this elevated ground you will find sandstone outcrops, lovely woodland, ancient castles, meres and many lovely villages, as well as the impressive City of Chester.
All these walks are either on the hill country of the ridge or very close to it. The walking climbs to all the tops that can be reached and explores the foothills that blend into the Welsh borderland at the ridge's end. It also takes in excursions to an ancient mere and explores the great Forest of Delamere, as well as the rolling heathland of Little Budworth Common. It includes many of the classic routes in the area but it is difficult to be selective with such excellent walking on offer. Expect up-and-down paths on the ridge and rolling fields on the lower ground.
