Like its predecessor, Kingdom Come II: Deliverance is a big, beefy role-playing game that revels in the everyday and the epic alike. In fact, Deliverance is about as close to a medieval Europe sim as you're likely to get, dropping you back into the boots of Henry of Skalitz, who's on a journey to avenge his murdered parents. In fact, you don't even start with boots - at the start of the game Henry and his lord Hans Capon's party are ambushed and the pair are forced to flee in their birthday suits. From there you have to claw your way back to glory, learning and acquiring everything you need to enact your vengeance. The main story mode is a huge, sprawling, knotty affair that will keep you going for hours. But ignore the side-quests at your peril! They have their own twisting, substantial paths that will take you all over the game's two expansive play areas, with decisions you make building and building thanks to some generous writing that gives you a lot of room to manoeuvre. You can go really deep on your medieval life, learning intricate mechanics around everything from crafting to hunting to thievery. With such a deep approach to giving you as realistic a medieval experience as possible, Warhorse Studios really delivers on the combat. It's tense, dangerous, first-person fighting of the most brutal order, and you can almost feel broadswords battering your armour.
