Watford - Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies

Watford in Old Photographs contains over 200 previously unpublished photographs of the town drawn from the vast collection at Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies.The views show daily life in Watford during the twentieth century, before many of the town's historic and listed buildings were removed in the name of progress. They also depict the hustle and bustle of a busy town and show many family-run businesses that have long since disappeared.The book catalogues important local events, forgotten street scenes, local characters and dignitaries and views of the suburbs and outlying districts. This new addition to the Britain in Old Photographs series encapsulates a period that is fast disappearing into history, when life was much harder but lived at a slower pace.
