Documentary portrait of avant-garde composer, singer-songwriter, cellist, and disco producer Arthur Russell. Before his untimely AIDS-related death in 1992, Russell created music that covered an extraordinary diversity of styles and attracted plaudits from a wide range of fellow artists; from composer Philip Glass and poet Allen Ginsberg to bands like Talking Heads and the Modern Lovers, from the pre-Studio 54 New York disco operators to the progenitors of house and techno. In recent years, Russell's music has grown in stature and the film features contributions from fans, friends and family alike, as well as a host of rare archival footage.
