Description

'Winona Avenue' is the debut studio album by American pop rock band Winona Avenue. The album was released exclusively in CD format on August 14, 2019, and later released digitally on June 25, 2021. All songs on the album were written and produced by lead vocalist Daniel Deputy and mixed by Isaac Moreno. The music on the album combines the styles of alternative rock and synth pop, drawing inspiration from 1980s power pop, 2000s pop punk, and 2010s pop rock. The album's sound is characterized by electric guitars and synthesizers along with catchy vocal melodies. The lyrics on the album revolve around themes of positivity, reflection, and encouragement. 'I choose to write music that can encourage the listener,' says Daniel Deputy. 'If I didn't write lyrics that could make a positive difference in the listener's life, then I'd feel as if I was doing a disservice to the listener. I believe in building others up instead of tearing others down, and music is a tool that can serve this purpose.' The band's Christian faith is also established in the message of the album. Daniel Deputy goes on to say, 'No matter the circumstances and no matter how difficult life may become, we want the listener to know that we believe God is with you every step of the way.' The artwork for the album was designed by Nick DePalo and consists of a road at night with a city skyline on the horizon. The booklet for the album depicts various roads and paths, and each page generally and successively brightens, consistent with the recurring theme of hope throughout the album. Writing and recording the album took a great deal of time and perseverance. 'I wrote over fifty different song ideas for the album. I couldn't stop writing because I wanted every song on the album to be somebody's favorite song,' says Daniel Deputy. 'I didn't want to include songs on the album just to get it finished in a timely manner. I wanted the album to be the best material I had ever written.' Daniel Deputy also says, 'We had a very limited budget, so we had to develop new skills in order to complete the album.' The CD album was initially only available at the band's live events, until October 18, 2019, when Winona Avenue released the CD album on their online store. Eight songs from the album were released as singles prior to the album's digital release in 2021, including 'Move This Town' on February 22, 2019, 'Paradise' on April 23, 2019, 'Day of Our Lives' on May 24, 2019, 'Dancing in the Pouring Rain' on July 26, 2019, 'Future Me' on January 17, 2020, 'Masterpiece' on June 12, 2020, 'Beautiful Beginning' on August 28, 2020, and 'December Night' on December 4, 2020.
