It has been a long time since the launch of the original wipEout, yet in 2000, five years later, you might think it's amazing how this futuristic racer can still be of so much interest.
Many of you out there will say, "well, it's wipEout, end of story," and to a certain degree this is the case.
As a launch title for the PlayStation back in 1995, wipEout has had two sequels, and now, new for 2000, a compilation of
the series' greatest assets. Consisting of a selection of the best tracks from the first three instalments, wip3out Special Edition should bring back some of those old, locked away memories of long ago.
While the track layout is still the same, some of the old features has been mixed up a little, so don't be surprised if you find yourself screaming, "but that's not where it was in the other game."
Also, features usually specific to later editions of the series can now be used as standard with the earlier tracks, such as the spectacular Quake Disruptor weapon. Special Edition's greatest asset has to be its wide choice of multiplayer options.
You now have the choice of both split screen and link cable games.
A new addition to the link option is the ability to have simultaneous four player action.
Despite the amount of software and hardware required, it's soooo much fun it's worth it.
