This harrowing film was produced in May 1945 at the personal insistence of US General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was so shocked by what he witnessed with his own eyes at the first concentration camps to be liberated that he ordered that this film should be made as a lasting testament to the barbarism that had occurred under the Nazi regime. The film, which contains highly distressing scenes of the horrific suffering from the notorious camps at Arnsdat, Buchenwald, Nordhausen and Dachau, was used as primary evidence at the Nuremberg trials.
