The Resident Evil Origins Collection has one foot very squarely in the past, while polishing up the sense of suspense and horror of its early days for a new generation. The collection packages together the original Resident Evil with its newly developed companion game, Resident Evil 0.
In the original game, players must take on the role of either S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) team member Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, who have been sent to recover the missing Bravo team. This is true survival horror, with extremely limited ammo and supplies and traps and puzzles reeking of the undead around every corner.
Playing with that same toolbox is the new entry into the series, Resident Evil 0. It takes players right back to 1998. There are reports and rumours about strange and horrifying murders round the outskirts of Raccoon City. S.T.A.R.S. sends its Bravo team to investigate, including rookie cop Rebecca Chalmers. She meets death row convict and ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen and the player must alternate between the two characters to solve the mystery at the heart of the grizzly deaths.
The games have high resolution textures that have been created from scratch, but the haunting and twisted visuals have been preserved to give this collection the atmosphere of the classic early Resident Evil games.
