Christmas is just around the corner and the time has nearly come for decorations to go up, gifts to be bought and festive food to be eaten.
Interestingly, many of us are adding sustainability to our festive planning too. We recently surveyed 2,000 UK adults and found that 58% plan to have a sustainable Christmas in some form. Even more encouragingly, 51% intend to have their most eco-friendly celebration yet!
There are many ways to have a more sustainable Christmas, but the British public is mainly focused on reducing the waste associated with the holidays and reconsidering travel.
Many of us will find eco-friendly gifts under our trees this year, with 7 in 10 saying it’s important their gift-giving has a positive impact on the planet.
In addition, 39% will only buy things which help the planet such as donations to charity, buying Fairtrade and shopping second-hand.
Sustainable shopping isn’t just good for the planet. More of us are using it as a way to save money too.
Christmas is a joyous time but it’s clear that a significant portion of us are mindful of the potential negative impacts of Christmas traditions too.
