iPhone 17: what to expect
Here are some of the iPhone 17 rumours we’ve found so far:
The iPhone 17 Air could replace the Plus model

Apple is reportedly shaking up the iPhone lineup in 2025. Rumours suggest the Plus model could get the boot, replaced by a brand new device: the iPhone 17 Air.
This new model is expected to be the thinnest iPhone ever, at just 5.5mm. Despite its ultra-slim design, it’s said to feature a spacious 6.6-inch display – larger than the standard iPhone 17 (rumoured to be 6.27 inches), but still smaller than the Pro Max model.
In terms of materials, the iPhone 17 Air might be the only model built with titanium, while all others (including the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max) are said to be made from aluminium with glass backs.
If you’re wondering what we know about iPhone 17 so far, this change to the model lineup is one of the biggest shakeups Apple’s made in recent years.
Camera upgrades for all models
One of the most exciting rumours? The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could feature a new rectangular camera bar stretching across the back of the phone. While these models are still expected to retain the familiar triangular lens layout, the switch up of the rectangular bar is an exciting design change that’s sure to shake things up.
On the performance side, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to include a possible 48MP telephoto lens with a stunning 8x optical zoom, which is a notable jump from the 5x zoom in the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Across the board, all iPhone 17 models are expected to come with a new 24MP front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of previous models for sharper selfies and video calls. One wild rumour even suggests the Pro models might be able to record video using both the front and rear cameras simultaneously, perfect for vloggers and content creators.
Potential performance upgrades
So, what do we know about the iPhone 17 when it comes to performance? The iPhone 17 and 17 Air could feature a new A19 chip, while the Pro models could be powered by an even more powerful A19 Pro chip. That means faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better AI performance. Combine that with a rumoured 12GB of RAM (up from 8GB) on the iPhone 17 Air and Pro models, and we could be looking at significantly better multitasking across the board.
Even more impressive, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could feature a new Wi-Fi 7 chip, offering blazing-fast wireless speeds and better stability for streaming, gaming, and downloading large files.
ProMotion and Always-On Display for all models
If you’ve been eyeing Apple’s ProMotion technology but didn’t want to splurge on a Pro model, 2025 might be your year. According to sources, ProMotion technology (and a 120Hz refresh rate) could finally be coming to all iPhone 17 models, not just the high-end ones. This also opens the door for Always-On Display capabilities across the range – another first for non-Pro users. It’s one of the most exciting performance-related changes in what we know about iPhone 17 so far.

- iPhone 17: black, white, steel grey, green, purple and light blue
- iPhone 17 Air: black, white, light blue and light gold
- iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max: black, white, grey, dark blue and orange
What will the new iPhone cost?
So, what about the prices of the new iPhone? While Apple hasn’t confirmed anything yet, analysts expect pricing to remain roughly in line with previous models. Here’s what that might look like:
- iPhone 17: from £849 / $849
- iPhone 17 Air: from £949 / $949
- iPhone 17 Pro: from £1,050 / $1,055
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: from £1,250 / $1,250
Keep in mind these are just rumoured estimates – we’ll know for sure after the official announcement. If you’re planning your next upgrade, it’s smart to keep a close eye on the new iPhone release date.
When is the new iPhone coming out?
Wondering “when is the iPhone 17 coming out?” Based on previous years, Apple is likely to unveil the lineup in the first or second week of September 2025.
Most predictions point to either Tuesday 9th September or Wednesday 10th September as the most likely iPhone 17 launch date.
