The Muppets Christmas Carol

Want a Christmas film that will go down well with all the family? You can't go wrong with this classic with a twist, The Muppets Christmas Carol!

This Muppets' rendition of Charles Dickens' classic tale is loved by adults and children, making it the perfect Christmas film for the family to enjoy.

You'll get a mix of hilarious Muppet action and a traditional Christmas tale everyone knows and loves.

Following the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, you'll see how the Ghosts of Christmas help him turn a new chapter.

musicMagpie recommend: The Grinch

Not too keen on The Muppets Christmas Carol? Give The Grinch a try instead!

Starring the comedy legend Jim Carrey, The Grinch is a family-friendly Christmas film based on Dr Seuss's 1957 children's book of the same name.

With his detest for Christmas, the Grinch decides to ruin the special day for all in Whoville – but things don't go according to plan.

Offering laughs for both the kiddies and the parents, Jim Carrey's Grinch can make anyone chuckle!

For the romancers:

The Holiday

Fancy a Christmas film to watch with your other half? We've got just the thing for you!

The Holiday is a romantic comedy based around the festive season that'll have you feeling all fuzzy and warm inside.

Starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, two heartbroken ladies arrange a house swap only to find love in the unlikeliest of places. Featuring male leads Jude Law and Jack Black, The Holiday is a must-see Christmas romance film.

While it's not the funniest flick on our Christmas film roundup, it'll still give you a few good laughs while keeping you in the holiday spirit!

musicMagpie recommend: Love Actually

Looking for the ultimate Christmas romance film? We recommend Love Actually!

With a huge star-studded casting list, you're bound to fall in love with all the characters on your screen.

The film focuses on different aspects of love shown through 10 stories with varying characters, many of whom are interlinked.

This feel-good Christmas Rom-Com will have you snuggled up close to your loved ones and feeling thankful for the ones around you this Christmas.

For those that prefer something spooky:

Krampus: The Christmas Devil

For those who prefer a frighteningly fun movie over your classic Christmas film, you can't go wrong with Krampus: The Christmas Devil.

The film focuses on a squabbling family who have lost the spirit of Christmas, evoking the wrath of Krampus.

Known in ancient European folklore, Krampus is a fearsome, horned demonic beast who punishes naughty children at Christmas.

You'll get plenty of seasonal scares with this Christmas Horror film featuring Adam Scott and Toni Collette as the family band together to try and defeat the Christmas Devil.

musicMagpie recommend: The Nightmare Before Christmas

If you're looking for something spooky but still age-appropriate, you can't go wrong with Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas!

The film mixes Halloween and Christmas to make a masterful mashup like no other. You'll get hints of comedy and a few musical tunes to sing along to, too!

It tells the story of Jack Skellington, who accidentally stumbles across Christmas Town. This glimpse of Christmas leaves Jack determined to take over the holiday and deliver a twisted version of Christmas to the world.

Loved by both children and adults, if you enjoy something a bit darker than traditional Christmas films, this is the movie for you!

For those that don't like Christmas:

Gremlins

What's a Christmas film roundup without something for the Grinches of the family? We're certain those who aren't seasonally spirited will still enjoy this Black Comedy with a Christmas setting, Gremlins!

The story follows a young man who is gifted a strange creature as a pet for Christmas, which then spawns other creatures who aren't so well-behaved.

These creatures, aka gremlins, become aggressive and destructive when wet or fed after midnight and end up wreaking havoc on a whole town on Christmas Eve.

While Gremlins can pass as a Christmas film, its ties to the Christmas season as loose enough to appease any Scrooges you might be hosting!

musicMagpie recommend: Die Hard

It's been settled by the director and writer themselves… Die Hard is technically a Christmas film, and it's a perfect watch for those that don't really care for traditional Christmas films.

Based on the 1979 novel, Nothing Lasts Forever, Die Hard stars Bruce Willis as John McClane, an NYC detective who unwillingly gets caught up in a terrorist takeover while visiting his estranged wife for Christmas.

Doesn't sound very Christmassy, does it? While there is the occasional Christmas tune and decoration, Die Hard is an Action film with glimpses of Christmas elements, making it perfect for those who aren't fans of Christmas.

If you're looking for a film with more action and less tinsel, Die Hard is a no-brainer!

For the comedy kings & queens:

Elf

For those looking to laugh out loud this Christmas, give Elf a try! With plenty of jokes aimed at adults and kids, it's a perfect film to set a jolly mood.

This good-natured Comedy stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human raised by Santa's elves on his journey to New York to find his biological father.

Ferrell's chaotic role as Buddy the elf will have you crying with laughter and is known as one of the best Christmas comedies of all time!

musicMagpie recommend: Home Alone

If Elf isn't quite your thing, you're bound to laugh watching child star Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone.

Culkin plays Kevin McCallister, a young boy who strategically defends his home from two burglars after his family accidentally leaves him behind on their Christmas vacation.

This spirited Christmas film uses old-school slapstick comedy that leaves both adults and children rolling with laughter.

If you're looking for a Christmas film to cackle to, you can't go wrong with Home Alone or Home Alone 2!
