9 of the weirdest musical collaborations ever

There's nothing quite like two brilliant artists coming together to record a song. Musical history is full of brilliant collaborations, from Jay-Z and Kanye to Queen and David Bowie.

However, sometimes two artists from completely different sides of the track get together to record a track, resulting in some weird and occasionally wonderful collaborations…

The Omen – DMX and Marilyn Manson

The Omen features DMX talking to the Devil, voiced by DMX putting on a slightly silly voice. However, silly voiced DMX clearly wasn't evil enough, so he enlisted the help of none other than the Official Most Evil Man on the Planet 1998, Marilyn Manson.

Our Mazza sings a bit from a previous DMX song, Damien, but sounds a bit like he wants to go home, put his feet up and have a nice cup of tea. Being evil is tiring work, apparently.

Whatzupwitu – Michael Jackson and Eddie Murphy

A collaboration between the guy behind Thriller and the guy behind Beverly Hills Cop should have been brilliant. It should have been the best thing ever, in fact. It wasn't. Still, the song is nowhere near as bad as the video, which makes the latter work of Mr Murphy look Oscar-worthy…

Rhinestone – Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone

George Orwell predicted that the world's population would be enslaved by an omnipresent and all-powerful government by 1984. It turns out the world faced a much worse fate: "˜Sweet Lovin' Friends' by Dolly Parton and John Rambo. It's from the film Rhinestone, which we wouldn't recommend either.

2012 "" The Flaming Lips and Ke$ha

After his collaboration with Miley Cyrus featured in our last post, it's clear that Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips feels that his music is best complimented by young female party animals. Surprisingly, the result isn't anywhere near as bad as you might imagine.

The collaboration went so well that the two even planned to release a whole album together, although it hasn't surfaced yet. Shame, we were looking forward to hearing Yoshimi Brushes Her Teeth With a Bottle of Jack and Do You Realise (That The Party Don't Start "˜Til I Walk In)?

Winter Wonderland "" Ozzy Osbourne and Jessica Simpson

At some point in the early 2000s, Ozzy Osbourne seemed to be doing as much as he could to ruin his reputation as the Prince of Darkness. Exhibit A: this chirpy ditty with the wholesome Jessica Simpson.

Ironically, it's probably the evillest song he's ever recorded.

A Christmas Duel – The Hives and Cyndi Lauper

Take one Swedish garage rock band, add an 80s pop sensation and what do you get? Erm…a Christmas song. To be honest, we can't see it taking Slade's place on the Christmas Party playlist any time soon.

Forever – Kiss and Michael Bolton

Kiss made a lot of weird decisions over the course of their career, but perhaps the weirdest was teaming up with 80s crooner Michael Bolton for this power ballad.

Bolton doesn't actually appear on the song, but he did co-write it. Remarkably, the song became Kiss' first US Top 40 hit since I Was Made for Loving You 11 years earlier and is still a favourite at weddings. Never underestimate the power of the Bolton.

Where The Wild Roses GrowNick Cave and Kylie Minogue

If we were Australian, our hearts would burst with pride at this one. The two Aussie legends teamed up for this Bad Seeds song, which Cave wrote especially for Kylie to sing on. Apparently, he'd wanted to collaborate with her for years. Aww.

Princess of China – Coldplay and Rihanna

Yep, we'd forgotten about this one too. It makes sense really, given that Coldplay and Rihanna are two of the biggest selling artists of the decade, but we still find it strange that the artist behind B***h Better Have My Money worked with Chris Martin, who seems like he'd prefer curling up with a kale smoothie and a good book rather than a night at the club.
