June’s New CD and Vinyl Releases: Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more!

Another month, another batch of musical delights for your ears to enjoy! June's new releases includes the latest from Radiohead, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jake Bugg "" and they're all available from the musicMagpie Store.

Wrong Crowd "" Tom Odell (10th June)

The Ivor Novello winning singer-songwriter returns with the follow-up to his multi-million selling debut Long Way Down, and we expect it to be just as huge.

Odell has described Wrong Crowd as "˜big', "˜dramatic' and "˜rich in musicality', which sounds about right from the chap behind Another Love.

Wrong Crowd also has a concept, with the songs detailing the struggles of a man who wants to preserve his innocence in the face of debauchery and the darkness of the world.

Last Year Was Complicated "" Nick Jonas (10th June)

With his brother Joe currently dominated the charts with his band DNCE's mega-hit Cake by the Ocean, Nick Jonas will probably fancy his chances of scoring a few hits with his new album, Last Year is Complicated.

Jonas revealed in a series of tweets that the album was inspired by a break-up, saying, "˜When I first started making I thought I knew what it would be about. Then I had a breakup. S*** is too real sometimes…reliving some of these real life experiences thought this music is hard'. Sounds intense, although there are bound to be more than a few catchy tracks and big singalongs.

Jonas has also enlisted the help of some big names, with Big Sean, Ty Dolla $ign and Tove Lo all featuring on various tracks. He also got some help from Jay-Z, who suggested the name for the album during a conversation between the two.

Pure McCartney "" Paul McCartney (10th June)

Curated by the man himself, Pure McCartney promises to be the definitive collection of the legendary songwriter's greatest hits, both with Wings and by himself.

Interestingly, three different versions of Pure McCartney will be released: a two disc set including 38 tracks; a four disc set including 67 tracks and a four vinyl collection of 41 tracks.

Each of the sets spans McCartney's career from 1970's McCartney, his first solo release, to his modern day recordings, including hits like Band on the Run and Live and Let Die as well as lesser known tracks like Hope for the Future, his contribution to the Destiny soundtrack.

On My One "" Jake Bugg (17th June)

On My One takes its name from a Nottingham saying which means, if you haven't guessed already, "˜on my own' "" which is pretty much what Jake Bugg was when he made this album. Bugg wrote, recorded all the instruments and produced the majority of On My One solo, with legendary producer Jacknife Lee working on three tracks.

Bugg has described the follow up to Shangri La as featuring more "˜grooves' and as being "˜darker' than his previous music.

The Dreaming Room "" Laura Mvula (17th June)

The Dreaming Room, the second album from MOBO award-winning soul singer-songwriter Laura Mvula, promises to be even better than her debut if her quotes are anything to go by.

Mvula has described the album as a "beast" and "the hardest I've ever worked on anything". Given how good her first album was, we've got high expectations for this one.

The Dreaming Room also features contributions from Nile Rodgers, Wretch 32 and John Scofield.

A Moon Shaped Pool "" Radiohead (17th June)

Radiohead's long-awaited new album was actually released digitally last month, although you'll only be able to get your hands on the CD and Vinyl editions this month.

As such, we can confirm that A Moon Shaped Pool is incredible. It features some of the best songwriting of their career and Thom Yorke delivers a performance that can't really be described in words. And it's not just us who think that either; Rolling Stone described it as "˜one of their most musically and emotionally arresting albums'.

As well as brand new tracks, A Moon Shaped Pool features two reworkings of long time fan favourites Burn the Witch and True Love Waits "" the latter of which has been around in some form for over 20 years.

In short, this is a must have for any Radiohead fan "" and anyone else will probably love it too.

The Getaway "" Red Hot Chili Peppers (17th June)

We're well overdue for a new Red Hot Chili Peppers album, with I'm With You fast approaching its 5th (!) birthday. And we may have got one sooner, if Flea didn't break his arm snowboarding.
But finally, we have The Getaway. Produced by Danger Mouse, the genius behind The Grey Album and Gnarls Barkley, it could represent something of a departure for the band if first single Dark Necessities is anything to go by. A smooth, airy song that relies as much on a gentle piano riff as Flea's trademark slap bass, Dark Necessities isn't the kind of song you can imagine four blokes with socks on their privates playing.

We can't imagine it'll all be laidback rock though, with Flea promising Rolling Stone that there will be "super danceable, funky s***" too. Sounds good to us!
