The tastes of Glastonbury: how this year’s festival tastes to someone with synaesthesia
Thousands of people are attending this year’s Glastonbury, and millions more will watch on TV.
Some of those people will have a slightly different experience to the rest of us though. Synaesthesia is a neurological condition that links senses which are normally experienced separately, including hearing and taste. Essentially, some people will hear or read a band’s name and experience a taste at the same time.
Intrigued, we asked Kathryn Jackson, a synaesthete with a rare form of the condition called lexical-gustatory synaethesia, to look at this year’s line-up and share the tastes she experienced with us.
We’ve recreated this year’s line-up poster based on Kathryn’s experience, and as you can see, it’s both a who’s-who of great music and a particularly delicious menu!
Below is the full list of artists and the related tastes Kathryn experienced. If you’d like to learn more about synaesthesia, visit the UK Synaesthesia Association’s website. Or, if you’d like to know how some of the biggest albums of all time taste, check out this post!
