Three new iPhones are set to be announced this week and we're all waiting in anticipation to see what these devices will house. We're expecting super fast processors, an incredible camera and a bright edge-to-edge display on the screen.

It's become the norm that once September rolls around, we get ourselves ready for the introduction of the newest iPhone models. Since the iPhone was first unveiled in 2007, how has it changed the world?

An increase in jobs globally

As demand grew for the iPhone, it has added jobs across the globe across a number of sectors. In 2016, it was reported that Apple are responsible for almost half a million jobs within the UK, rising to 1.4 million within Europe. The App Store alone has generated £28 billion since it became available. In Ireland, Apple has around 5,500 employees which made Apple at the time, Cork's largest private employer.

It's no surprise that within America, these figures only grow. Across 50 states, Apple are responsible for two million jobs and there are 80,000 Apple employees. Since 2000, there has been a huge 28 times increase in Apple employment outside the state of California.

In the last 20 years, Apple has seen a 1,500% growth in U.S employees. There are 1.53 million jobs created and supported by the App Store; 271% growth of app economy jobs and more than $16 billion earned by U.S developers from App Store sales across the world in the last decade.

It's not just the workforce either. In 2015, the sales of iPhone 6 devices were responsible for 10 percent of all economic growth, working out at between 0.25 or 0.3 percent of the change in the US GDP. In 2017, iPhone sales accounted for the vast majority of all Apple revenue, sitting at an impressive 63 percent.

Music and social media

The numbers the iPhone boasts are impressive, but what about the things that affect us? For starters, it began to change how we consume music "" for the most part. The iPhone gave us the tools to expand our music libraries at the touch of a screen.

It's clear to see it's had a hand in the rise of social media, thanks to both 3GS internet and the App Store. The App Store has meant there is an app for just about everything; keeping a handle on your finances, ordering food and some simple games to pass the time.

It's easy to stay connected

Staying in contact has never been easier either. With the iPhone 4, which introduced a glass back device, saw the revolutionary front facing camera used to facilitate the FaceTime feature. This meant you could actually see your loved ones when you spoke to them, creating a more meaningful experience.

iMessage introduced threaded messages so once you got a reply to your text, you couldn't have to go back to your sent box to see what you'd said. It was all right there in front of you, making it easier to keep up with the conversation.

Helping to make all smartphones smarter

If we reduce the iPhone's impact to its simplest form, it has completely changed the course of smartphones forever. Before the iPhone's launch, physical keyboards and even qwerty keyboards were the norm. Now, they are a thing of the past "" to keep up with Apple's reach, major mobile phone manufacturers had to switch it up to touchscreen to avoid being left behind.

No matter what the new iPhone can do, or what it looks like, all other phone companies will be taking note. We've already seen how the iPhone X has influenced the current market (just look at the ASUS Zenfone 5 or LG G7 ThinQ) and we could expect more of the same in the coming months.
