Close up of the front and back of iPhone 13

The iPhone 13 is the second lightest in the range, weighing just 6.10 ounces. It is exactly 5.7-inches in height and 2.53-inches wide.

The iPhone 13 is splash, water and dust resistant with a rating of IP68. This means it can be submerged in a maximum depth of 6 metres of water for up to 30 minutes. Water resistance means the device can resist a certain amount of water but not entirely and this is measured using an IP rating.

The iPhone 13 is available in six colours, including Green, Pink, Blue, Starlight, Midnight and PRODUCT RED.

You will also be able to choose from three storage options, such as 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Take into consideration, the larger the storage, the more you'll pay.

If you're wondering what's the iPhone 13 screen size, this model has a 6.1-inch all-screen OLED display and a Super Retina XDR display.

iPhone 13 new features

Two zoomed in variations of the front and back of iPhone 13

Design

The iPhone 13 didn't have a complete redesign, but there are a few clear differences compared to the iPhone 12. One of the main changes is a smaller notch which was reduced by 20% and offers slightly more viewing space.

The iPhone 13 has a flat-edged design and also has a new camera bump. Plus, the front and rear of the device are glass, and the front panel also includes Apple's Ceramic Shield technology. According to Apple, this offers four times the drop resistance of the glass on older models.

You can find the silence switch, volume buttons and SIM tray on the left side of the handset and the right side hosts the power button. The Lightning port and speakers have been placed at the bottom of the device.

This handset is slightly heavier than the iPhone 12 but it's not something you'll really notice and it is still easily used in one hand and won't weigh your bag or pocket down.

Other features of iPhone 13 include a small change to the arrangement of the main lenses in the camera array. They are diagonal rather than vertical, which we've seen in the past from previous iPhone models.

Display

The iPhone display size is 6.1-inches and the iPhone 13 screen has a Super Retina XDR OLED display which creates clear and bright images, with a resolution of 2532 x 1170. Even though the iPhone 13 has an increase in brightness, the traditional 60Hz speed remains as the refresh rates have only been increased for the Pro models.

Camera

The most impressive upgrade of the iPhone 13 has to be the camera! The iPhone 13 camera quality is well worth it, with a 12MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera and digital zoom up to 5x.

If you weren't sure what the new features of iPhone 13  are, the wide-angle camera has been given a larger sensor and the ultra-wide camera has a new sensor which helps it gather more light, plus it's capable of shooting night mode photos too. The iPhone 13 also has Apple's Sensor-Shift OIS technology which offers amazing image stabilisation.

There's also a new Apple iPhone 13 camera feature which can be accessed through the camera app called Photographic Styles. This enables you to apply custom looks to your images and unlike a normal filter, it allows the iPhone to apply adjustments to parts of the image.

If you take a lot of videos, you'll be happy to know the iPhone 13 shoots at 4K at 24,30 and 60 frames per second, as well as Full HD at 30,60, 120 and 240fps.

The iPhone 13 has also seen a huge recording upgrade, with the introduction of Cinematic Mode. This allows you to film with a bokeh effect, where the background of the shot is blurred.

Battery

The iPhone has a good reputation for battery life and the iPhone 13 is no exception. The iPhone 13 battery has been improved, which means it lasts longer than the iPhone 12 and is compatible with 20W charging adapters. Plus, you'll find the iPhone 13 charging port at the bottom of the device. If you want a smartphone that lasts a full day, then the iPhone 13 is a suitable option.

However, please note you won't get an iPhone 13 charger plug in the box. Apple no longer provides newer iPhone models with a charging adapter. Instead, you will only get an iPhone 13 charging cable, which is a USB-C to Lightning cable. If you're a first-time iPhone buyer and need an iPhone 13 adapter or don't have a compatible charger, you'll have to buy one separately.

You'll be pleased to know you'll get iPhone 13 MagSafe charging and it is compatible with other Qi wireless chargers up to 7.5W of power. However, using an official MagSage charger means you can charge wirelessly up to 15W.

Not sure what MagSafe charging is? It's the name for the technology Apple refers to as the magnetic technology that's now built on the back of newer iPhone models. Magnets are placed around a Qi wireless charging coil inside the handset. But if you want to use the MagSafe feature on your iPhone 13, you'll need to buy a separate MagSafe charger iPhone 13.

Performance

The iPhone 13 features 4GB of RAM and the powerful A15 Bionic chip which provides improvements to efficiency and means the battery life is more than an hour longer for every model in the series.

Apple dropped the 64GB option and instead the iPhone 13 storage options start from 128GB and increase to 256GB and 512GB. So if you're planning on having a lot of media on your iPhone, then we recommend going for higher storage than the standard 128GB. Even with the support of iCloud, it is still pretty easy to fill.

iPhone 13 Mini specs

Two close up images of the front of the Blue iPhone 13 Mini

Firstly, the iPhone 13 Mini specs are almost identical to the iPhone 13 with slight changes to battery, size and camera features. Here's what you can look forward to if you choose the iPhone 13 Mini:

This model is the lightest of the series, weighing just 4.94 ounces! It is 5.18-inches in height, 2.53-inches in width and has a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display.

It is rated IP68 for Splash, Water and Dust resistance, which means it can be submerged under a maximum of 6 metres of water for up to 30 minutes.

The iPhone 13 Mini runs on the A15 Bionic chip, the same as the rest of the models in the range. It is also available in the following colours: PRODUCT RED, Starlight, Midnight, Blue, Pink and Green.

You can also choose from three storage options, including 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

The iPhone 13 Mini has a dual 12MP camera system and the iPhone 13 Mini camera specs are the same as the iPhone 13.

It also includes Face ID, Apple Pay, Siri, dual SIM, Audio Playback, Video Playback, audio calling and video calling.

If you're wondering how long the battery lasts, the iPhone 13 Mini battery life depends on the following usage:

Battery for Video Playback – Up to 17 hours

Battery for Video Playback (streamed) – Up to 13 hours

Battery for Audio Playback – Up to 55 hours

It has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery and can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes. The iPhone 13 Mini also features MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W and can be charged using a power adapter or computer.

New features of iPhone 13 Mini

Pink iPhone 13 Mini in box

It's no surprise that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have similar features as they are both standard models in the series. But don't let the size of the iPhone 13 Mini fool you, it has a lot of great features to offer and is a fantastic handset if you're looking for a smaller, more compact device.

Design

The iPhone 13 has a smaller body compared to high-end smartphones and is simply designed for those who prefer a smaller device. It can be used single-handedly and will fit perfectly in your pocket.

The power button is located on the right side of the handset and the silence switch, volume buttons and SIM tray can be found on the left side.

The rear of the device is made of glass, including Ceramic Shield technology that has nano-ceramic crystals to protect it from being dropped. Thanks to this technology, the iPhone 13 Mini is four times stronger than iPhone models that don't have it.

The iPhone 13 Mini also has a smaller Face ID notch, taking up less space. It also features flat edges and a glass back. This model is also slightly thicker than the iPhone 12 Mini.

Display

The iPhone 13 Mini as well as the iPhone 13 features a Super Retina XDR Display which is 28% brighter. The iPhone 13 Mini screen size is 5.4-inches and has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 with 476 pixels per inch, including a 60Hz refresh rate.

Camera

The iPhone 13 Mini has a dual camera, including a 12MP f/1.6 wide camera and a 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view.

This model can also record up to 4K in 24fps, 30fps or 60fps. Full HD will also go up to 120fps and 240fps.

The iPhone 13 Mini also uses the new Cinematic Mode, which means the camera automatically focuses on your face and you can switch between subjects whilst recording.

Battery

As the iPhone 13 Mini is the smallest in the series, the battery life isn't as long as the other models, but this doesn't mean it isn't decent.

The iPhone 13 Mini battery is 2,438mAh and is much smaller than the average smartphone. However, according to Apple, its 18W charging can recharge to 50% in just 30 minutes.

So if you're upgrading to the iPhone 13 Mini from an older iPhone, you'll find that the battery life is longer but not as fast as the other models in the iPhone 13 series.

Wireless charging is also another addition to the iPhone 13 Mini and it is compatible with the Apple MagSafe charger.

However, please note that a power adapter is not included alongside the iPhone 13 Mini, so if you don't have one or a charger that is comparable to a USB-C Lightning cable then you will need to buy one separately.

Performance

The iPhone 13 Mini is powered by the A15 Bionic chip, which is the same processor for the 2021 range. It is powerful and is great for loading and running different apps at the same time.

The storage options you have to choose from are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. However, if you want to opt for larger storage, the Pro models offer an extra 1TB option.

You'll also be glad to know the iPhone 13 Mini supports 5G, so you'll be able to connect as long as your network provider and plan support 5G.

Plus, iOS 16 is compatible with the iPhone 13 Mini, with updates set for the next few years. It includes a range of new features and an overall smoother experience.

iPhone 13 Pro features vs iPhone 13 Pro Max features

Zoomed in image of the camera of the iPhone 13 Pro

With unbelievable power, fantastic camera abilities and sleek design, there's no doubt the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are at the top of their game, but which one is the better model?

Both models were made available back in September 2021, with the iPhone 13 Pro starting at £949 and iPhone 13 Pro Max from £1,049. Unfortunately, Apple has discontinued the Pro models and is no longer selling them.

Both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max share a lot of the same features, including OLED Super Retina XDR display, 5G connectivity, A15 Bionic chip, triple camera lens, storage options and colour options.

But what actually sets them apart from each other? Keep reading to find out the key differences:

Design

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are pretty much identical, with the same design approach as the iPhone 12 Pro models.

Both displays are covered by Apple's Ceramic Shield, which is four times tougher. The bodies of both models are made out of stainless steel and glass in the front and rear.

The major difference is the size of both handsets as the iPhone 13 Pro screen size is smaller and lighter than the iPhone 13 Pro Max screen size, which is clearly the largest device in the series.

If you're looking for a larger iPhone then the Pro models are a suitable option, but there are downsides to purchasing a larger phone, including it being unable to fit into your pocket or it being too heavy to hold in one hand.

But if you're looking for a device that has a screen size somewhat similar to a smaller tablet so you can watch videos and play games more clearer, the iPhone 13 Pro Max could be exactly what you're looking for.

Both Pro models even have the same colour options; Graphite, Gold, Silver and Sierra Blue. They offer a completely different colour palette compared to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini.

You'll also find that they have larger camera modules and you won't be able to sit the devices flat on a table. However, a new iPhone 13 Pro feature and new iPhone 13 Pro Max feature is the 20% smaller display notch.

Display

The most noticeable difference in regard to the display is the size. They both have the Super Retina XDR Display but the iPhone 13 Pro display is 6.1-inches and the iPhone 13 Pro screen resolution is slightly smaller, with a 2532 x 1170 resolution. Whereas the iPhone 13 Pro Max display is 6.7-inches and has a 2778 x 1284 resolution.

The larger handset, which is the iPhone 13 Pro Max, will be able to display more content and the UI elements of apps will be further apart on the screen.

They are very much the same display as both have a maximum brightness of 1200 nits for HDR content. The iPhone 13 Pro models have also got an upgraded refresh rate of 120Hz, compared to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini.

Overall, both iPhone 13 Pro models have a decent display, but the iPhone 13 Pro Max does have an advantage when it comes to media content.

Battery

Another major difference is you'll get more battery life from the iPhone 13 Pro Max than the iPhone 13 Pro.

Even though the battery capacities have been extended, the iPhone 13 Pro has a 3095mAh cell and the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a larger 4352mAh cell.

The 120Hz refresh rate won't affect the battery life as much as you think, thanks to the LTPO display technology and software optimisation. According to Apple, the battery life has an extra 1.5 hours compared to the previous iPhone 12 models.

You'll also have to take into consideration that you won't get an iPhone 13 Pro Max charger or iPhone 13 Pro charger, due to Apple's choice to no longer provide new iPhone models with an adapter. You will still get a compatible cable with either model.

If you're looking to use the MagSafe technology that both Pro models include, you will also need to buy the accessories separately.

Camera

The iPhone 12 Pro Max had the best camera from the iPhone 12 Series, but with the iPhone 13 range, both Pro models have identical cameras, with that said, they still have two of the best smartphone cameras on the market.

You'll be able to use three 12MP cameras, which include a new larger sensor. The Ultra-Wide sensor has been widened to an f/1.8 aperture which is bigger than the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Both the iPhone 13 Pro camera and iPhone 13 Pro Max camera have the ability to capture macro shots from as near as 2cm away and the telephoto lens has been boosted to 3x optical zoom, however, this is more of an improvement for the iPhone 13 Pro model.

You can also take Night mode shots with the telephoto sensor and both models have the new Photographic Styles feature which lets you adjust the look of your photos.

There's also a new Cinematic mode which applies a Portrait mode blur effect to everything but the main subject.

Performance

Both the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max feature the A15 Bionic chip which has a fifth GPU core, whereas the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have a 4-core. This makes them some of the fastest models on the market.

There isn't much else to focus on as both Pro models are identical. They even have the same storage options; 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

5G support is also very strong but you'll only be able to use it if your Network has 5G connectivity or you're on a 5G plan.

You'll also find that both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are compatible with the new iOS 16 updates.
