Samsung Flip vs Fold

Display

Want to know which is better Samsung Flip or Fold in terms of display? Both the Flip and Fold series offer Dynamic AMOLED 2X display technology and come equipped with two screens, so you won't see a big difference in display performance.

However, you'll find that the size of the displays makes all the difference. The Galaxy Z Fold range has larger screens: The front display is the size of a standard smartphone, with the Fold2, Fold3 and Fold4 all measuring 6.2". Once opened, the Fold model stretches to an even bigger 7.6". The Fold series is for those who want to use both a standard and larger-sized screen without having to carry both a phone and a tablet around with them.

In contrast, the Flip range offers users a compact phone without losing out on display size. The Flip series has a cover and main display, with the cover display measuring only 2.1" on the latest Flip4 model. This cover display is designed for interacting with widgets and showing notifications, so you don't have to flip open your phone to do simple tasks such as reading a text or checking the weather.

Battery

Battery is a big thing for many phone users, after all, you want a phone that can last the entire day without it running out of juice. Luckily both the Flip and Fold models have great battery life – but which one is best, the Samsung Galaxy Flip or Fold?

The Fold series tends to have the larger battery, with the Fold4 and Fold3 models offering a 4400mAh battery and surprisingly the Fold2 offering a slightly bigger 4500mAh battery. The Flip and Flip3 both offer a smaller 3300mAh battery, although the Flip4 has an increased 3700mAh battery.

Although the Flip series have smaller batteries than the Fold series, it's important to note that the Flip models also have smaller screens, and so will use less power. The Flip4 has an intelligent battery that can adjust the power depending on usage habits, so we wouldn't rule the Flip models out over battery size.

Design

The Samsung Flip vs Fold designs are completely different. The Galaxy Z Flip series has an incredible choice of colour options along with the addition of Bespoke Studio which enables you to personalise your phone. The Galaxy Z Fold has a smaller choice of colours, including Black, Purple, Pink and Blue for the Fold4.

The main difference between the two models in terms of their design is the hinges on the devices and how they bend. The Flip phones have a horizontal hinge that allows the Flip model to go from a 4-inch compact into a full-sized smartphone.

The Galaxy Fold model has a vertical hinge, that allows your phone to fold out from a standard-size display into a 7.6" display worthy of a tablet.

Cameras

Both the Flip and Fold phones have exceptional video and photo technology, but they also have a few key differences.

When it comes to Samsung Flip vs Fold cameras, you'll find the best quality cameras on the Fold series. The Fold offers a larger number of pro-grade cameras when compared to the Flip, so if you want the best camera, go for the Fold series instead.

For example, the Fold4 has a 3-lens rear camera system comprised of a 50 MP Main camera, a 12 MP ultrawide lens and a 10 MP telephoto lens. There's also a 10 MP cover display camera and a 4 MP under-display lens.

But that doesn't mean the Flip series has poor cameras. In fact, the Flip4 has three top-quality cameras, including a 12MP Ultra-wide and 12MP Wide-angle on the rear and a 10MP front camera.

Although these cameras aren't quite as pro-quality as the ones the Fold series offers, the Flip has another camera-related feature up its sleeve. Thanks to Flex Mode, you can adjust the camera to your desired position and it will hold steady at whatever angle you've set, so you can capture incredible hands-free images with ease.

Durability

Both the Fold and Flip models have an IPX8 water resistance rating, meaning your phone can handle a splash or two from the rain.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 have upgraded display panels using the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, making both devices the toughest of Samsung's foldable models so far. Older models such as the Galaxy Fold3, Galaxy Flip3 and Galaxy Fold2 have the previous Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Features

So you want to know which is better Samsung Flip or Fold for features?

If you're looking for a phone to help your work while on the move, the Fold series is the better choice. With such a huge screen, you can operate and interact with multiple apps at once on the Fold. The latest Fold series models are also S Pen enabled, so you can jot notes as if you're using pen and paper or get creative and draw on the go.

The Fold series is also a great option for those into gaming. The latest Galaxy Fold4 can produce a 120Hz refresh rate without having to alter the screen resolution, and with a 7.6-inch display, there's plenty of screen space to see all action.
