How to transfer your backup data

There are a few ways to transfer your backup data to your new iPhone, and which one you pick will depend on how you have backed up your old iPhone.

Using a computer

For those who have used a computer to backup their iPhone data, here’s how to transfer that data to your new iPhone:

  1. Press the power button to start your new iPhone.
  2. Choose your language, country, and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  3. When you reach Apps & Data, select Restore from Mac or PC.
  4. Use a USB cable to connect your new iPhone to the computer you used to back up your old iPhone.
  5. Open Finder or iTunes on your computer.
  6. Find and select your new iPhone.
  7. Select the backup you just created from the list and click Restore.
  8. Wait for the process to complete before disconnecting your iPhone.

Using iCloud

For those who have used iCloud to backup their iPhone data, here’s how to transfer that data to your new iPhone:

  1. Press the power button to start your new iPhone.
  2. Choose your language, country, and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  3. When you reach Apps & Data, select Restore from iCloud Backup.
  4. Sign in with your Apple ID.
