A sneak peak into Game of Thrones finale

The final season of Game of Thrones is set to air in just a few weeks – and all eyes are on the potential victor of the Throne.

Ahead of GoT's April 14th release date, lifestyle outlet Entertainment Weekly have covered the upcoming season. This includes glossy covers of each of the remaining characters as well as insight into what we can expect from the final episodes.

We're set to see the Battle of Winterfell – directed by Miguel Sapochnik also who directed the Emmy-winning battle between Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton – where fan favourites like Snow, Arya Stark and Tyrion Lannister take on the Night King. It is expected to be the longest battle scene ever in film.

Maisie Williams, who stars as plucky Arya, was warned to start training a full year before filming. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the gruelling 11 week schedule for the battle alone, Williams said, "It's night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn't stop. You can't get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there's so much to do that nobody else can do… there are moments you're just broken as a human and just want to cry."

Director Sapochnik spoke of the challenges of trying to portray so many key characters in the epic battle scene, having mainly focused on Jon Snow before now. "Here I've got 20-some cast members and everyone would like it to be their scene. That's complicated because I find the best battle sequences are when you have a strong point of view. I keep thinking: 'Whose story am I telling right now?'"

The final episode of Game of Thrones is set to air in the US on May 19. To film this top-secret last episode, only specific crew members with an Episode 6 badge were allowed on set during its filming, with certain scenes shot on a closed set.

In anticipation for the upcoming season, HBO have finally shared a trailer for Game of Thrones on social media.
